Song Of the Day - CCLII - Ancient Bards

The Italian Symphonic Power Metal band Ancient Bards have just released their second full length, Soulless Child.
This album improves on their work on last year's release, the first since they wer founded in 2006, and shows the same neo-classical approach to Power Metal that the one by their countrymen Rhapsody Of Fire, but with a female voice.

Song Of the Day - CCXLVII - Illnath

Danish Symphonic Black Metal band Illnath has become female fronted and had to re-record their third full length, Third Act In The Theatre Of Madness, with the new singer and also with new lyrics.
I have mixed feelings about the singer change, but the music is top notch.

Song Of the Day - CCXXXVII - Windir

Remembering 2001...
Windir started in 1994 as Terje "Valfar" Bakken one man band. It released 3 albums until in 2001 it became a full band, while he remained the singer and main composer.
The band was disbanded after "Valfar" tragically died in 2004, caught by a snow storm when he walked in the countryside.

Song Of the Day - CCXXXII - Moonspell

Today I'm bending the Song Of the Day rules, because I don't bring a song, but a jingle. An amazing jingle, but nevertheless, a jingle.
The brand behind this jingle is Optimus, a Mobile Phone Operator from Portugal with a long track record of iniciatives related to the music industry - they sponsor a yearly music festival that occurs every year and is one of the country's most important music festivals - and their idea was to join musicians in unprobable duets, around one same song, All Toghether Now from The Beatles.
The other duets are crap, but the duet joining Moonspell and fado singer Carminho is very very good, and a(nother) clear sign of the Metal genre flexibility.

Song Of the Day - CCXXXI - Derdian

In the last weeks, my MySpace account changed from one that requests friendship to their favorite bands, to one that receives friendship invitations from bands.
One of those bands was Symphonic Power Metal Italian band Derdian. With three full lengths released and a 13 year old career they're not exactly rookies, and it shows in their mature and pleasant sound.

Song Of the Day - CCXXVII - Black Sun Aeon

Tuomas Saukkonen is one of the most proficuos musician and composer out there, from this new generation of musicians now entering the thirties.
Mostly connected with the Melodic Death Metal sound, he is most notted by is tremendous job singing, playing guitar and keyboards on Before the Dawn, but, amongst other projects, he still manages to get time to have his one man band, called Black Sun Aeon, where he explores a more Doomish approach to Melodic Death Metal.
They, I mean, he has just released a full length with very good music, titled Blacklight Deliverance.

Black Sun Aeon - Oblivion
