Abigail Williams is NOT the next Whitney Houston! It's a Melodic Black Metal band from the US.
They have never hit the jackpot in their previous releases, but their third full length, Becoming, was just released and sounds very good.

They have in Thomas Vikström (Therion) an experienced singer that gives them good vocal performance, and their compositions are quite interesting.

Enlighted - Time To Fly

Song Of the Day - CCCVII - Savage Messiah

The brittish Trashers Savage Messiah have just released their second full length, Plague Of Conscience.
I'm not much of a Trash Metal fan myself, but this release sounds really good, and a plague of conscience would be on me if I didn't had a Song Of the Day with it.

Savage Messiah - The Mask Of Anarchy

Song Of the Day - CCXCIX - Aeternum Sacris

This is not my continuos spinning kind of sound, but some days, when I'm feeling more greyish than usual, I love hearing this kind of music. Today is one of those days.

This is Aeternum Sacris, a Funeral Doom band from Japan.

Aeternum Sacris - In Our Hearts

Song Of the Day - CCXCVII - Trees Of Eternity

When Juha Raivio (Swallow the Sun guitarist) and singer Aleah Stanbridge got together in 2008 to work on a song for the next Swallow the Sun album, where she was going to do the vocals on part of a song, things got in an unexpected path, and Trees Of Eternity came to life.
They have only released two demos, and are working on the first full-length, but I really like the Female fronted Doom/Death Metal approach.

Trees of Eternity - My Requiem

Monday, January 9, 2012

Song Of the Day - CCXCV - Alcest

Great first week of the year, with the release of Alcest third full length. In Les voyages de l'âme, is the release title, Neige has dropped most of the usual Black Metal bursts, making this a more pure Shoegaze album.

Alcest - Autre Temps

Saturday, January 7, 2012

Song Of the Day - CCXCIII - Pain

Good Metal covers of The Beatles songs are rare. That just enhances the value of Pain's fabulous cover of Eleanor Rigby.

Pain - Eleanor Rigby (The Beatles cover) (Live at Sundown Festival 2008)

Song Of the Day - CCXCII - Pathfinder

Forever Young from Alphaville is one of the most covered songs ever. This is the always surprising version from Pathfinder.

Pathfinder - Forever Young (Alphaville cover)

Wednesday, January 4, 2012

Song Of the Day - CCXCI - Symphonity

In the eighties I had a crush for Kim Wilde. To me she will be forever the queen of eighties Pop.
She faded in the nineties, but in 2003 she had a duet with German eighties pop star Nena, that was a reasonable hit. Was that song that Symphonity recovered in this great Power Metal version.

Symphonity - Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime (Nena and Kim Wilde)

Song Of the Day - CCXC - Sinergy

Yes, it's an ABBA cover again in this blog.
The melody and musicianship of ABBA's songs are great, they simply appeared a decade too soon, or they could have been a Power Metal band.

Sinergy - Gimme Gimme Gimme(Abba cover)

Monday, January 2, 2012

Song Of the Day - CCLXXXIX - Thyrfing

A great version of Gary Moore's hit, and one of the most covered songs out there.
